About Us:

At CGL, we offer the full range of geotechnical and geoenvironmental consultancy services so we can manage projects in their entirety for our clients. We offer a one-stop shop for the smallest to the largest projects, from drilling the first borehole through the delivery of interpretative reports to the completion of remedial design works.

Role Overview:

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will play a key role in delivering geotechnical and geoenvironmental projects across a range of sectors. Working under the guidance of senior technical staff, the postholder will manage commercial projects both technically and contractually, ensuring work is delivered to the required technical, financial, and programme standards.

The role will involve a mix of site and office-based work, including investigation, analysis, interpretation, design, and reporting. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a developing level of technical competence, contribute to project delivery, and actively work toward achieving chartered professional status.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake geotechnical and geoenvironmental assessments, analysis, and design in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Prepare accurate, high-quality factual and interpretative reports with minimal review required.
  • Develop robust ground models, contamination risk assessments, and design assumptions that are clearly presented and defensible.
  • Conduct site supervision, data collection, and logging in accordance with company SOPs, ensuring factual accuracy and adherence to safety standards.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations confidently in written and verbal form to clients, regulators, and co-consultants.
  • Assist with cost control, budgeting, and project management under the direction of senior staff.
  • Maintain and build strong client relationships through proactive communication and reliable delivery.
  • Support the company’s mission, vision, and values while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional development and progress toward chartership (CEng, CGeol, CEnv, or CSci).

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or related discipline.
  • 1–5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical or geoenvironmental consultancy.
  • Strong technical writing and analytical skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Experience in site investigations, report writing, and interpreting geotechnical data.
  • Demonstrable understanding of ground modeling, soil behavior, and risk assessment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with clients and regulators.
  • Working toward professional chartership with a recognized UK institution is preferable.

Benefits:

  • Flexible working arrangements, hybrid (not remote)
  • Competitive salary and bonus scheme
  • Health and retirement benefits.
  • Professional development and training.
  • Life insurance.
