We’re Hiring: Principal Designer (CDM 2015)

Location: Nottinghamshire (near Nottingham/Fairfield)
Work Arrangements: Primarily onsite, likely five days per week, due to the nature of the work within a live food production and construction environment.
Salary Package & Project Duration:
- For the contract option, the rate is £400–£450 per day (all-inclusive), with no additional expenses covered, so travel and accommodation must be included in the rate.
- For the permanent or fixed-term option, the salary is approximately £60,000 per year, typically offered as an initial 6–12-month contract.
- The project is expected to last around 12 months, with candidates likely starting on a 6-month term, and a strong possibility of extension based on performance and client satisfaction.
We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer (CDM 2015) to support a major client site in the Midlands. This role requires strong technical competence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate design risk management across multiple contractors and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Risk Management
- Lead the planning, management, and monitoring of the pre-construction phase in line with CDM 2015.
- Identify, eliminate, and reduce foreseeable design risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate design risk reviews and ensure designers comply with their duties.
CDM Compliance & Documentation
- Develop, review, and update Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and ensure it is issued to all relevant parties.
- Review and comment on contractor RAMS, ensuring alignment with design intent and risk controls.
- Prepare and manage the Health & Safety File, ensuring all required information is collected and maintained.
Site Coordination & Oversight
- Carry out and record site inspections to verify that design risk controls are implemented.
- Liaise with the Principal Contractor to ensure safe planning and sequencing of works.
- Monitor compliance with approved statements and design risk mitigation measures.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the key point of contact for the client on all CDM and design-related matters.
- Facilitate communication between designers, contractors, and the client team.
- Provide clear, timely updates on design risks, changes, and compliance issues.
Quality, Safety & Reporting
- Conduct quality and safety inspections relating to design implementation.
- Review and check design drawings, specifications, and reports for CDM compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of design decisions, risk assessments, and coordination activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in CDM, design management, or construction H&S role.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 and relevant legislation.
- Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary design teams.
- Project management and commercial management experience.
- NEBOSH Construction or equivalent H&S qualification.
- First Aid (desirable).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
