We’re Hiring: Principal Designer (CDM 2015)
Employment type: Full-time
Location: Nottinghamshire (near Nottingham/Fairfield)
Work Arrangements:  Primarily onsite, likely five days per week, due to the nature of the work within a live food production and construction environment.

Salary Package & Project Duration:

  • For the contract option, the rate is £400–£450 per day (all-inclusive), with no additional expenses covered, so travel and accommodation must be included in the rate.
  • For the permanent or fixed-term option, the salary is approximately £60,000 per year, typically offered as an initial 6–12-month contract.
  • The project is expected to last around 12 months, with candidates likely starting on a 6-month term, and a strong possibility of extension based on performance and client satisfaction.

We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer (CDM 2015) to support a major client site in the Midlands. This role requires strong technical competence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate design risk management across multiple contractors and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Risk Management

  • Lead the planning, management, and monitoring of the pre-construction phase in line with CDM 2015.
  • Identify, eliminate, and reduce foreseeable design risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate design risk reviews and ensure designers comply with their duties.

CDM Compliance & Documentation

  • Develop, review, and update Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and ensure it is issued to all relevant parties.
  • Review and comment on contractor RAMS, ensuring alignment with design intent and risk controls.
  • Prepare and manage the Health & Safety File, ensuring all required information is collected and maintained.

Site Coordination & Oversight

  • Carry out and record site inspections to verify that design risk controls are implemented.
  • Liaise with the Principal Contractor to ensure safe planning and sequencing of works.
  • Monitor compliance with approved statements and design risk mitigation measures.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the key point of contact for the client on all CDM and design-related matters.
  • Facilitate communication between designers, contractors, and the client team.
  • Provide clear, timely updates on design risks, changes, and compliance issues.

Quality, Safety & Reporting

  • Conduct quality and safety inspections relating to design implementation.
  • Review and check design drawings, specifications, and reports for CDM compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of design decisions, risk assessments, and coordination activities.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in CDM, design management, or construction H&S role.
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 and relevant legislation.
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Project management and commercial management experience.
  • NEBOSH Construction or equivalent H&S qualification.
  • First Aid (desirable).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
